DAY TWO - KEITH AGREES WITH BARNEY FRANK - IRAQ WAR IS THE “GREATEST WASTE OF MONEY IN OUR HISTORY”

Keith had one of the chief architects of the America’s recession on the show last night - Rep. Barney “Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not facing any kind of financial crisis” Frank. Frank is not only a financial whiz, but also apparently a student of history:

FRANK: That is appalling. And, by the way, we have two wars going on. I wish we didn`t. I voted against the war in Iraq, the greatest waste of money in our history.

What was Keith’s coherent, thoughtful response?

OLBERMANN: Yes.

Later in the segment, Keith called Republicans wanting to read the U.S. Constitution “Founding Father worshippers” who likely won’t “even understand the words they will read. That`s not a gratuitous jab.” Really?

Guest Tally!

  • Barney Frank, liberal Rep. from MA
  • Howard Fineman, liberal MSNBC commentator
  • Akhil Reed Amar, liberal law professor who even said, “It`s an honor to be here. I`m a real fan.”
  • Arizona State Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Democrat from the Arizona’s 15th district

That’s four liberals/Democrats, Zero moderates, Zero Republicans/conservatives

A MESSAGE TO COMCAST

As a service to Keith Olbermann’s incoming bosses at Comcast, we thought it was a good idea to remind them a little about the character of their new employee. Now, we’re not going to get into all the past allegations (stalking, boorishness, etc.) or even all of the hateful things he has said about Republican politicians (including a sitting president) and sexist, unforgivable tirades against female conservative commentators. (If you are interested, take a look at some of our past stories). No, we are only going to concentrate on what he does now.

We will take a look at his show each day and give you the high(low?)lights of Keith’s insulting behavior. We do this as a service for Comcast. Think of this site as a Media Matters for the sane.

Let’s start with last night’s program. We’ll skip his suggestion that conservatives don’t have brains from Monday. That show also featured a conversation with Rep. Anthony Weiner where they attempted to humiliate Rep. Michele Bachmann in ways that would get a conservative commentator talking a female Democrat fired immediately.

As you’ll see, Keith saves particular ire for women and minorities when they dare step out of line. Is he a misogynist? A look at his personal life will give you a quick answer. Is he a racist? We’ll let you decide.

Allen West

Last night, Keith set his sights on Rep. Allen West - the newly elected African-American congressman from Florida. In fact, Rep. West, a retired Army Colonel, is the first African-American to represent Florida since 1876. Worth celebrating? Not exactly in Keith’s world. The night before Rep. West was to be sworn in, Keith took the opportunity to question his sanity claiming that he “is still fighting mental health” and is, of course, “The Worst Person in the World.”

What was Rep. West’s alleged crime? On a radio show, he suggested that we should be wary of the intrusion of Islamic Sharia law into our legal system. I guess, Keith never heard of the New Jersey judge who denied a restraining order against an abusive husband because according to the man’s Muslim beliefs, “his desire to have sex when and whether he wanted to, was something that was consistent with his practices and it was something that was not prohibited.”

Other Notable Gems from the Always Warm and Generous Keith Olbermann

Just last night, he called Republicans “nuts,” Glenn Beck a “mutant,” and not-so-subtly suggested that the incoming chair of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa, is soliciting bribes from big business.

Oh, and here’s the fair and balanced guest tally:

  • Robert Kuttner from the liberal American Prospect
  • Eugene Robinson, liberal Washington Post columnist
  • Leo Gerard, President of United Steel Workers
  • Lee Fang from the Uber-liberal ThinkProgress.org
  • Melissa Harris-Perry from the liberal Nation magazine

That’s right- 4 liberals, Zero conservatives (or even moderates!), 1 union thug.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This site is not intended to duplicate or take anything away from OlbermannWatch.com. They are the best. Please, please read them everyday. Think of this daily message to Comcast as a supplement to their excellent work.

Countdown to the End

Well, well, well, another messy battle between Keith Olbermann and the brass at MSNBC. Bill Zwecker at the “Chicago Sun-Times reports:”

PICKING ON BRISTOL: Speaking of Olbermann, an MSNBC insider reports the talk-show host was “called on the carpet” by his bosses for declaring Bristol Palin “the worst person in the world” on his show last week — calling it “tacky” and “a cheap shot that was uncalled for.”

Olbermann had criticized Palin for making an abstinence public service announcement — given she has had a child out of wedlock.

Another fight and another suspension? Olbermann was once again absent from his own show after being called out by his bosses. No official word from MSNBC, but it makes sense that on the eve of the Comcast takeover, nobody there wants to cause any problems- nobody except maybe Olbermann.

We’ll continue to watch this death spiral with anticipation of chaos in the next couple months. Stand by…

Check out “Mediate for more and video”.

Up Until 7:30pm on Tuesday, Nobody at MSNBC Knew Who Would Actually Host Countdown!

If you read this blog, you know that our sources inside NBC have been very good at providing context and background to the always entertaining Keith Olbermann saga. And this latest news makes perfect sense as we observe the overall narrative of the self-absorbed, self-destructive, troubled TV personality.

Here’s what we’ve been told:

  • The stand-off between Keith and MSNBC execs lasted much longer than anyone on the outside knew. As of 7:30pm on Tuesday night, bitter recriminations were still flying back and forth. Keith was still demanding that the network apologize to him before he would take the anchor chair.
  • MSNBC, on the other hand, made it clear that a refusal to host the show would result in an even longer, more serious suspension.
  • One source has told us that the network even had another host ready to go in case Olbie stormed off to his bathtub. Does anyone know where Thomas Roberts was last night? Because we’re told he was in an MSNBC greenroom.

What is at work here? Certainly, Keith has history of implosion everywhere he has worked. There would be nothing unusual about another hysterical break-up with Olbie slinking off like Gollum to his cave of self-pity. But there could be a calculated gamble going on here. Let’s take a look at some more evidence:

  • Comcast comes in soon, and already, Jeff Zucker has been left in the dust.
  • With his greatest protector gone, Phil Griffin now needs to take control, save his own job, and assert his authority. (Don’t forget the episode where Olbermann famously told The New Yorker, “Phil thinks he’s my boss.”)
  • There has been much speculation about Comcast brass and their dislike for the rancor of venom of Countdown.
  • Olbermann’s audience is dwindling while at the same time, Rachel Maddow has been surging (well, surging by MSNBC standards!). She is now their break-out star. For the month of October, Maddow beat Olbermann in the “key” demo of 25-54-year-olds.

But here is where it gets interesting. Olbermann recently switched representation to ICM. So already, we know he is looking to make some changes.

Is he trying to provoke MSNBC?

Olbermann has two years left on his contract. But our same sources tell us that ICM has already been shopping him to CNN. That network will desperately be looking for another 8:00pm show after the imminent failure of Parker Spitzer. (There is nobody left at CNN or anywhere else who thinks that stinker will last even another few months.)

If he is really looking at CNN than provoking his MSNBC bosses could have the desired effect of cutting him loose. BUT, Comcast could also take him off the air and eat the two years.

Let CNN be warned

Hiring Olbermann changes their entire culture. His baggage (“How dare you, Mr. President”) is enough to ruin decades building trust with their audience.

Not to mention having this creature in their midst.

Liberal Lynch Mob Finally Gets Juan Williams

NPR has been looking to unload Juan Williams for a long time. They will tolerate only one way of thinking- only the furthest-left, ultra-politically-correct dogma. Like Pravda during the old Soviet Union, you either toe the line or end up in a gulag. Since there are no gulags in the United States… yet, NPR will have to settle for a contract termination. But make no mistake, if they had their way, I am sure Juan, alongside most of talk radio, the entire staff of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and others would be in a re-education work camp this morning.

What was Juan’s crime? He told the truth about his own personal feelings - something you really have to keep buried these days. Anyone who says they weren’t a little anxious about Muslims or middle-eastern people on planes after 9/11 is not just a liar. They’re a damn liar. I remember being on a flight a few months after the attack when a man in a turban (not even a Muslim, but a Sikh!) took his seat. The other passengers all looked at each other with knowing glances. “If this guy gets up to use the bathroom, he’s going down!”

But you are not allowed to say these things lest they offend the most protected class of people in the history of the world. You simply can’t say anything that might in the smallest way make Muslims feel the least bit uncomfortable. Witness the Seattle cartoonist who dared suggest a “Draw Allah” contest. That woman has been forced to into hiding on the advice of our own FBI. Our country either cannot or will not protect her! This is beyond outrageous. This is madness.

America needs to stand together united against this fascism. If we are going to have free speech, then let’s have it. If you or your beliefs are so fragile that you can’t stand being offended once in awhile, then get out. This is what we do here in America, we debate, we argue, we make fun and, yes, we occasionally offend each other.

If this is not for you-fine. Please take your delicate constitution along with your Sharia law, burqas, veils, fatwas, and honor killings, and please get out. There is plenty of room for your way of thinking in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

Not that I care, but just in case some you more feeble-minded readers might think that I am talking about ALL Muslims. I am not. I am talking about Muslims who do not celebrate our freedom. I am talking about anyone who wishes to impose their way of thinking on everyone around them. I am talking about the ones who threaten (even to kill) anyone who dares criticize the most extreme aspects of their religion.

Your intolerance is creating enemies where they did not exist before.

And not for nothing, but isn’t NPR the same radio network that just took a bunch of money from George Soros?! Where is that cash going? To hire new reporters. A coincidence?

OLBERMANN’S BIGOTRY PROBLEM

Recently, hit-and-run driver Rick Sanchez was let go from CNN in part because he called Jon Stewart a “bigot.” Sadly, this is tactic that is more common than ever, as playing the race card has become the last refuge of the president’s die-hard supporters. Quite frankly, it is all they have left. And playing that particular card is as low as it gets. It is a smear that sometimes stains forever. It is an easy insult that comes usually with very little evidence, but carries a heavy burden. The charge is constantly leveled against the Tea Party despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Take a look at this recent study from a graduate student at ULCA.

Now, is Keith Olbermann the original Rick Sanchez?

CNN was right to fire Sanchez. But what about others? Let’s take a look at the big guy over at MSNBC. Certainly, he’s too smart for this. He wouldn’t fall back on this specious argument to defame his perceived enemies…

10/15/10:Brian Kilmeade, FOX News

But our winner, Brian Kilmeade. There is stupid and there is bigoted and there is paranoid and there is Islamaphobic. But it takes a big man to combine all four of them

10/14/10: Bill O’Reilly

Lost in that, of course, is the fact that Bill-O, without the benefit of a script, revealed himself to be just another Fox News bigot and Islamophobe.

07/06/10: Rush Limbaugh

Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama and presumably every other black person in this country has not succeed despite the fact that they`re black, when this country is still filled with racists like this homunculus Limbaugh. They`ve succeeded because they`re black, and only because they`re black. Well, you heard it. It`s naked, ugly racism. It`s the distillation of Rush Limbaugh`s view of our country. The only other thing I can say is, Oprah, please, crush this schmuck, huh? Rush Limbaugh, overt racist, today`s worst person in the world

05/14/10: Sen. James Inhofe(R)-Oklahoma Senator(bigot and Bonus: “homophobe”)

James Inhofe of Oklahoma, still making a jack ass out of himself… He`s now fighting the repeal of Don`t Ask, Don`t Tell, because he says the military is full of homophobes like himself… Apart from the question of why Inhofe assumes that our military heroes are as bigoted as he is, Inhofe also has his categories all wrong.

05/05/10: Rush Limbaugh

So while it looks like he`s a terrorist, we know Rush Limbaugh is a fraud, and a fake, and a liar, quack, charlatan, opportunist, racist, buffoon, blowhard, sham, hypocrite, shyster, wind bag, demagogue, propagandist, reactionary, for- flusher, phony and fanzanoon (ph), and mountebank (ph). And worst of all, he`s just Rush Limbaugh, today`s worst person in the world.

11/19/09: Glenn Beck

Beck is just part of the ADL report which takes stock of the ugliest aspect of those town hall meetings and the tea bagger rallies, the birther movement and Joe Wilson`s “you lie.” But the September 12th rally in Washington, the report notes, featured the worst in racist, violent imagery since Obama was elected. That event, heavily promoted, of course, by Beck, a man who projects his own hate onto others.

11/05/09 Republican Party

But today was when the Republicans say, “We own this.” There is racism in here. There is bigotry. There`s refusal to acknowledge the outcome of an election that was a pretty clear-cut decision. There is a misunderstanding of a vital health care issue. There are a lot of things going on here. But they`re being stoked up into a rage and this was not — correct me if I`m wrong about this — but this was the day the Republican Party said, “Yes, we`ll take this. We`ll run on this. We`ll become the party of hate.”

09/15/09: Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of North Carolina

But our winner, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of North Carolina. You can tell when she`s about to say something that will shame her district and her state; her lips are moving… she continues her outer space argument against health care reform by saying the following: “in a recent article, conservative commentator Thomas Sowell, an African-American, examined some of President Obama`s claims about the health care reform legislation moving through the Congress. I wanted to quote some excerpts from his column that I found insightful.” The article and the points Congresswoman Foxx raised had nothing to do with race. So she cited the fact that Mr. Sowell is African-American for what reason? Because the president is African-American? Because if one of them disagrees with him, that carries more weight somehow? Because they are all supposed to think alike? There is no reason to raise Mr. Sowell`s race, except to introduce race into the health care debate. So when somebody suggest that many of Obama`s critics are motivated, in whole or in part, by latent racism, which they`re trying to pave over with any excuse they can think of, this is what we`re talking about. Congresswoman Foxx having to tell you that one of the president`s critics is also one of them. Congresswoman Virginia Foxx, fifth district North Carolina, latent racist, today`s worst person in the world

05/05/09:Sam, Joe the Plumber, Wurzelbacher

Our number one  story in the COUNTDOWN Sam, Joe the Plumber, Wurzelbacher proudly resuscitates the slur queer in defense of his bigoted views against gay marriage.

01/05/09: Radio Host Bill Cunningham

The bronze to racist radio host Bill Cunningham, syndicated by the Premier Radio Networks, belittling more efforts to fight poverty because, quote, “poor people were not and are not poor because they lack money. They are poor because they lack values, ethics and morals.”

12/11/08: Bill O’Reily, Gretchen Carlson / FOX News

But our winners Bill O. and another shared honor with his factious fixed news colleagues Gretchen Carlson about that imaginary war on Christmas… the cause of these racist and anti-Semites has been picked up by Bill O`Reilly and Gretchen Carlson and FOX News.

09/30/08: Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann

But the winner, the most un-American member in the American House of Representatives, Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann, Republican from Minnesota. She read into the Congressional record part of an article from the right wing publication “Investors Business Daily,” which purports to explain the mortgage crisis by blaming a Clinton era rule change. Congressman Bachmann read aloud that the rule pushed, quote, “Fannie and Freddie to aggressively lend to minority communities to offer, quote, home ownership as a way to open the door for blacks and other minorities to enter the middle class.” In other words, Congresswoman Bachmann blamed the meltdown on blacks and other minorities. In other words, Congresswoman Bachmann is a racist!

12/05/07: Mitt Romney / Lou Dobbs

Governor Romney, Mr. Dobbs, you might even get your racist way some day. And then who in the hell would be left to pick up after you?

10/05/07: Glenn Beck

I thought he had retired, CNN`s Glenn Beck, saying to Sharita Mckenzie (ph) of the Muslim Peace March organization, quote, how do we know the difference? I mean you are reasonable. How do we know the difference between you and those that are trying to kill us? Probably through talking to them, not being paranoid, using common sense, recognizing how few of them are trying to kill anybody. You know, the same way you tell the difference between Glenn Beck and somebody who isn`t a bigot or isn`t trying to tear the country apart.

08/02/07: Bill O’Reilly

Winner Bill-O, explaining his stance on immigration reform, and remember, that is code for we don`t like Mexican people. So Bill-O says, quote, most Americans don`t want to hurt any poor Mexican people. They want to know who they are. They want to know where they are and what they`re doing. They don`t want them clustering in neighborhoods and changing the tempo of the whole neighborhood. You know, the same way the anti-immigrant bigots didn`t want my immigrant German ancestors changing the tempo of the whole neighborhood in 1900. The same way the anti-immigrant bigots didn`t want Bill`s immigrant Irish ancestors changing the tempo of the whole neighborhood in 1850. Bill O`Reilly, today`s Worst Person in the World!

01/02/07: Craig Barker of Katie, Texas

But tonight`s winner, when our leaders act like that, who can be surprised when our citizens act like this. Craig Barker of Katie, Texas, he`s upset that an Islamic mosque is being built on the land adjacent to his, and that the new owners asked him to remove his cattle from their land, so he is protesting the new neighbors by holding pig races to offend their Muslim sensibilities. Craig Barker`s new neighbors are said to be indifferent about the protests. Mr. Barker, a note for you, Muslims do not hate pigs, they just don`t eat pigs. If you are going to be a bigot, please, be an informed bigot.

Hmmm. I guess I was wrong.

Guys like Sanchez and Olbermann diminish real bigotry when they use false smears just to score cheap points against people they don’t like.

The Review is in: Parker Spitzer is painful

May not be the chief TV critic for the Washington Post or The Wall Street Journal - just my friend Todd Greenberg. I thought it was entertaining enough to post (and right on target!):

They open up with smooth jazz. Oh yeah.  This is going to be fun. Parker says they’re not going be partisan, they’re going to do something “different.”.

Parker can barely open her mouth. Its weird.

Parker tells Spitzer to stop interupting her -  says she won’t tell a Democrat (Spitzer?) which Republican told her they won’t run if Palin runs. Confused. I thought she said they weren’t going to be partisan?

Spitzer opens up talking about how Obama should fire Giethner.  Parker opens up criticizing Palin. Tells her to stop pretending she’ll run.  Oh… they’re taking opposite views.  Something different?  I get it.

Guests are now Andrew Breitbart and Tom Frank. Breitbart really?  This segment is called “The Arena.”

Blah blah blah We’re having a reasoned discussion.  Spitzer is dominating this segment. Talking about Giethner, Palin, and the Tea Party.

I regret choosing to watch this.  What I really want is a slice of pizza.

They’re asking about the Shirley Sherrod story. Breitbart gave a non-answer answer.  Let’s end the segment on a two-month old story.

Looks like a lot of taped pieces.  Palin bashing coming up.

Elizabeth Warren is next. Oh my f’n God. I’m going to kill myself. She’s creating the new consumer protection agency. This block is called “The Headliner.”  Professional wrestling starts at 9pm. John Cena lost his match at Hell in a Cell last night so now he has to join Nexus.  Will he go through with it?  Who were the masked men who attacked him?

My roommate Steve just told me he finally saw The Godfather. He’s talking about it like it just came out. He said it was amazing.  Duh?

I have no idea what they’re talking about.

Guest Aaron Sorkin coming up.

This segment is called “Person of Interest.”  They’re playing A Few Good Men clip. They show the walk-up and play the jazz music again.

Start off by talking about The West Wing. Parker asks about Palin. Sorkin calls her an idiot. Still on West Wing. Spitzer wants a West Wing sequal.

They play a Social Network clip. Sorkin says please don’t not see the movie because of his politics. This clip is good. I will go see this movie.

Here’s the Spitzer solo segment. Its about some guy he prosecuted when he was AG. Smooth jazz walk-up. They like each other now. This segment is called “Unfinished Business” -  a rehash of a case he prosecuted back in the day. I am now in my room looking at photos of Ashley Dupre, don’t worry door is open. Remember the song from her Myspace?

They’re acknwledging they have been tough on Palin. This is the equivalent of me telling Jennifer I do not like her skirt.  I would never say that to Jen, she dresses tastefully and with class unlike other ladies of our staff.

This next segment is “Political Party” with some no names to talk about everthing. One panelist wrote a play in the third grade about the Exxon Valdez. Another panelist she won a wing-eating contest.  They are talking about Palin’s fashion. Now they’re being positive about her. What celeb would you like as a presidential candidate?  This is sooooooooo painful.

The guy from The Nation is talking about his cavities.  Guilty pleasures is the topic.

Its over.  This was worse than watching Olbermann. But it did give me an idea to spice up my life… Smooth Jazz.

Time magazine is practically irrelevant. The only reason it is still around at all is because it bares the name of the parent company. So, they continue to prop up this long dead publication. Anything published in that rag is usually not even worth commenting on. Like the tree falling in forest, Time has no audience. None. When is the last time, anyone said to you, “Did you see that article in Time?”

That being said, we need to point out their completely disingenuous cover story this week. Once again, the establishment media is trying to frighten people with the creepy, right-wing militia bogeyman. How long can they continue this tactic with no evidence that militias offer any threat at all?

Well. I guess there was the Ft. Hood gunman. Oh yeah, he was a radical Muslim.

OK, than what about the Discovery Channel whacko? Oh, that’s right, I forgot, he was a radical environmentalist disciple of Al Gore.

Remember that guy who flew the airplane into the Texas building hoping to get the IRS? Surely, he was some kind of militia nutjob? Take a look at his manifesto. Turns out he was a George Bush-hating communist!

The Arkansas recruiting center shooter? Would-be Times Square bomber? Underwear bomber? Not a militia member among them. All radicalized Muslims.

Sheepskin factory arsonist? Crazed animal rights whacko.

The ridiculous article even repeats the lie that there are more threats now against the president:

Readier for bloodshed than at any time since at least the confrontations in the 1990s in Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and Waco, Texas, the radical right has raised the threat level against the President and other government targets.

This is provably false. Take a look at the CBS News story: Secret Service: Threats Against Obama No Higher than Normal

The effort here could not be more transparent. The Democrats are on the ropes, and there is only weapon left. The dinosaur media can only help their friends in the White House by hyping this foolish fear of “Tea Party radicals” and now, even more sinister - armed right-wingers in their scary camouflage!

Nobody is falling for it. And the only thing Time does is make blogs like this one more legitimate.

Keith Who? Rachel Who?

Comcast execs - pay attention. The biggest problem for your MSNBC primetime line-up may not be the arrogance, ignorance, or depravity of your hosts. To be sure, few folks wouldn’t get nauseous watching an accused stalker sneering at a former president while barking “How dare you!” out of the comical fake tan of his bloated face. But in order to do that, you’d have to know the bloated one was even on the air. According to a new poll at Politico, 42% of registered, likely voters have never even heard of Keith Olbermann. 55% couldn’t tell the difference between Rachel Maddow and Maureen Flannagan… exactly.

Comcast could flush these twits off the air in a heartbeat, and nobody would even know.  Nobody that is except for their apologists in the media - people like the infamous Brian Stelter. Look at today’s headline, “Comcast Spends Big Pressing for Merger.” This one is all about how rich and powerful the scary, evil corporation is. Why they even hire lobbyists! I am shocked!

We’ve discussed Stelter’s motives before. This time, it is all about a warning. Brian Stelter and the New York Times are on to you, Comcast, and your greedy corporate ways. So, don’t even think of ousting our beloved Keith.

Remember that you heard the news about Jeff Zucker here first. With his demise, the first line of defense for the stalker is down. Football fired him already. Ratings keep falling.

We’d say that Keith is yesterday’s news, but according to the Politico survey, he was never there to begin with.

The Week the Democrat Media Industrial Complex Died
